Crater Face
Busy and Amanda have invited the two girls from the previous episode to one of their sleepovers. Amanda is in love with Danny again because he's flying in from New York in the next scene or two. Busy is in one of her grouchy-for-no-reason moods and sulkily brings up Danny's bad hair and lack of maturity. Amanda claims their relationship is deeper than Danny's hair problem. Amanda shows a clip of Danny's stand up comedy and suggests that he perform his act at Daisy's upcoming pool party.
Still not over her body image issues, Amanda worries that Danny will think she's too fat when he sees her in her swimsuit. Busy brings up Amanda's "deeper relationship" comment from the day before.
A boy named Doug who prefers to be called Jake says hi to Amanda. Amanda tells Busy that Danny got in last night but when she called he said he was too tired to see her. He's doing his comedy routine in "real" night clubs now, she says, (hard to imagine - he's 13 and his act is not that good) and she worries that he is being swarmed by groupies. Then Danny comes up and Busy and Amanda give him odd looks. You can't tell from the picture and the video isn't much better, but he's supposed to have a face full of acne.
Danny and Amanda eat lunch together and Amanda avoids all eye contact with Danny and speaks only in monosyllables. Busy and the other two girls laugh when Danny passes them. They all talk about the problem in gym class, and Amanda pretends she's not bothered by it.
Danny, who is wearing his gym suit home for some reason, gives Amanda a water gun. He squirts Jake/Doug with it. Amanda goes into a rant about Danny not wearing socks with his shoes. Actually, when the camera pans down on Danny's feet, he's wearing two different shoes, which is even weirder. Amanda decides that Danny is too immature to be invited to Daisy's pool party.
Amanda talks with Jake at the party and he goes off to get her a drink. Then Danny's mismatched shoes appear in her line of vision. It appears that though Amanda didn't mention the party to him, Daisy went ahead and invited him. Amanda asks Danny if he wants to swim and he starts to take his shirt off, hesitates, and then says no. Are we supposed to think Danny has man boobs or something?
Monkey Ears makes fun of Danny's zits. Everyone laughs and Danny walks away. Monkey asks Amanda if she's going to go after her boyfriend. Amanda loudly proclaims that Danny is not her boyfriend. They let the extras adlib a little in this scene. One says, "Ooooh, that's embarrassing," and one says, "Oooo, tough luck."
Amanda decides to help Danny out by buying him some acne cream because some people can't get over his complexion. Busy tells her she's doing the wrong thing and that it's Amanda herself who can't get over it. She's right, of course, but is a little hypocritical since she was making fun of Danny's hair before. Amanda leaves the cream at Danny's doorstep.
Danny confronts Amanda about the cream and tells her that he's going to dermatologists and taking antibiotics. He accuses her of changing, of becoming more superficial. Nah, she's been like this since the beginning.
In school the next day, Busy tries to tell Amanda again how she is acting is wrong when Danny comes in wearing large fake ears and carrying a banana. He makes monkey sounds and goes over to Michael, claiming to be a long lost relative. Amanda looks embarrassed.
Jake talks to Amanda about his modeling ambitions while she watches Danny and Daisy play basketball together. She asks Jake if he finds her easy to talk to because she is superficial. I guess this is when Amanda finally has her epiphany that she's been a shallow bitch, even if Danny deserved it. Afterwards, she walks through the park while sad music plays.
Amanda runs into Danny at their building's elevator and begs him to hear her out. He gives her one minute to say her piece. She admits to being obsessed with looks and being a bad friend. He tells her it doesn't matter anyway because his mother got custody of him...I guess for good, because this is Danny's last episode. Amanda asks to hang out with him Friday but he already has plans with Daisy. Before he leaves, Amanda squirts him with her water gun. She's in such a daze watching him go and pondering the life lesson she's just learned that the elevator door nearly closes on her. Or maybe it was a blooper that was left in.
Next episode: Busy auditions for a commercial and a famous hockey player guest stars.
