Three's a Crowd
Now there's 26 more hours until school starts, which doesn't make much since as it is supposed to be night and they're having a sleepover at Busy's. Amanda relates how depressing it is that they won't be in high school. She keeps watching out the window for Frankie. She finally feigns having to pee in order to go see him.
Frankie is in his room reading Lord of the Flies and listening to some generic music. Amanda admires the drawings on his wall and he invites her in to look at them. Just then Busy shows up and cock blocks Frankie by asking why Amanda isn't peeing.
Busy's legs. Told you they were going to use this joke again.
These two random girls come up and ask Busy and Amanda about their summer. The girl on the left played a mean character on Avonlea. On this show, she is just supposed to be a hyper, annoying girl who makes over exaggerated facial expressions. Busy and Amanda say they are going to the school dance as each other's dates. Amanda laments at how immature all the guys at their school are. Cue Monkey Ears.
Amanda is supposed to be listening to Busy practice her drums, but she is still on the lookout for Frankie. He finally rides up on his bike. Some awkward conversation between the two of them ensues, while Busy makes snarky interjections.
Frankie leaves the scene and Amanda follows soon after. He gives her a drawing and they kiss. Busy quits her playing and witnesses it.
Busy cuts right to the chase when Amanda returns. Amanda admits it was their second kiss and she thinks they're going out now. Busy says you aren't supposed to date your best friend's brother and Amanda promises that nothing will change.
Amanda shows the girls at school the drawing Frankie gave her. She mentions wanting to invite Frankie to the school dance. Monkey Ears calls out to Amanda to save him a dance and does a little side step shuffle thing. Busy arrives and is pissed off that Amanda wants to take Frankie to the dance when Amanda was supposed to be her date.
We learn that Sam has volunteered to cook dinner once a week to keep his wife from running off again. I'm glad they had some continuity with this storyline. Busy yells at Frankie for kissing Amanda and Frankie teases Busy for not knowing how to shave her legs, presumably having been told this by Amanda. Amanda then shows up at the door. Busy tries to get rid of her by telling her they're eating but her mother calls for her to help wash the dishes.
Dom laughs at Frankie when he finds out Amanda is here to see him. Frankie and Amanda go out to talk and Amanda has to really not be playing with a full deck to see that Frankie is blowing her off. He doesn't want to talk, doesn't want her to call him and rushes off. Busy goes in to talk to Frankie and tells him that it looks weird since Amanda is still twelve and he is in high school. Frankie denies going out with Amanda and says he turned her down about the school dance.
Busy comes up to Amanda in gym class, no longer mad. As the girls do yoga, she explains that Frankie is lying to her when he says he has to do inventory at the store, but Amanda won't believe it. She accuses Busy of being jealous, which is at least partly true but it was a low blow anyway. Busy stomps off in the middle of class, which the teacher is apparently fine with.
Amanda calls for Frankie and is rude to Busy when she answers the phone. Dom teases Frankie that he could get arrested for dating a minor. I don't get it. Frankie and Amanda look about the same age. Danny looks about 30 and no one says anything about her dating him. Anyway, Busy lectures Frankie about his dishonesty and treatment of Amanda.
Amanda asks her mother what it means when you leave a message for someone and they still haven't called two hours later. Amanda implies that she thinks Busy deliberately didn't deliver the message.
Amanda goes to Frankie's school to see him and spies him with another girl.
Amanda comes over to Busy's after Busy promises Frankie will be at soccer practice. She cries all over Busy and swears she would never do that to a boy. Except she's doing it right now, to Danny! Busy says she might, because it's kind of like what she did to Troy. Amanda says maybe it runs in the Ramone family. Oh come on, considering Busy could have said "like what you're doing to Danny" that was kind of harsh. Busy says now they can go to the dance together as planned and starts imitating Monkey Ear's dance. Frankie shows up because practice was canceled which sets Amanda off again.
Then comes my favorite closing of the whole series, where Busy tries to make Amanda laugh by dancing and twirling her around.
I kind of wish Frankie and Amanda could've lasted a few more episodes. The characters went well together. I can see why it might've ruined the concept of the show to make too much of a deal of it, though. I feel that this episode did show the strength of the Amanda and Busy friendship...I like how Busy didn't think twice about taking Amanda's side in the whole thing, even though Amanda was treating her badly. Here's a Frankie/Amanda video. It's pretty good considering how few scenes there were to use:
Next episode: Amanda dumps Danny because he has acne. She's never do that to a boy, huh?
