Amanda is working on the yearbook committee and the results are in on who got what in the best/worst list. It turns out Troy got Most Likely To Succeed. Busy doesn't have much of a reaction to this news. Chrissy got Least Likely To Succeed. Why is there even a category like that? Assign it to the wrong kid and it could be soul-crushing. Chrissy also got Most Popular. Amanda made the poll, as Teacher's Pet, even though it was only supposed to be for eighth graders. Chrissy comes in and calls the yearbook committee nerds.
During English class, Amanda complains to Busy about her Teacher's Pet title and then realized that Busy also voted for her. Chrissy is lead into the class. She'll be joining the seventh graders for grammar because she has some catching up to do. Of course, the teacher's pet is asked to tutor her after school. Chrissy lies to Melissa and the boy who fought with Peter last episode about being sent down to grade seven. Chrissy goes off with them instead of meeting up with Amanda.
Amanda finds Chrissy down on the playground and confronts her about why she didn't show up at the library as planned. Chrissy starts making fun of Amanda, saying she smells squeaky clean like disinfectant.
At Chrissy's house, Chrissy gives her little sister makeup tips and fights with her mother. I like that she calls her mother's boyfriend Dick instead of Nick. It just so sounds like something a kid that age would do.
Amanda is in charge of everyone getting their school photo taken for some reason. Amanda says something about Danny going back to New York, but I'm not going to get too excited until I see it happen. Chrissy comes along for her photo and all the boys (including Danny) whistle and catcall at her. Busy makes a face (above) imitating the boys' reaction to Chrissy. Sick of being labeled a nerd, Amanda refuses to give an example of a nonrestrictive clause in her next class.
Danny has his bags packed up, but I'm pretty sure I remember that he's in the next episode. Amanda brings up Danny's attraction to Chrissy. He admits that Chrissy is sexy, but says that Amanda is cute and "safe."
In the next scene, Amanda has her hair in a topknot. Even though she's blatantly copying Chrissy, she does look better this way. Amanda tries to get Busy to skip classes with her, but is unsuccessful.
Chrissy demands that Amanda meet her at the library. Busy totally speaks for the audience on this one when she asks Amanda what's wrong with her that she'd drop everything for Chrissy again. She's only called her names, tricked her into shoplifting, stolen her essay and I don't remember what else. You'd think that would be enough for Amanda to realize the girl is bad news. At the library, Chrissy demonstrates that she's smarter than she lets on and then runs off when she sees her friends. Amanda has dialogue with her mother about her mother's goony new boyfriend.
Oh yeah, and Chrissy gets Amanda to cheat on a test too. The teacher catches them and Chrissy gets her panties in a twist because her punishment is more severe than Amanda's...though the cheating was for her benefit.
Amanda catches up to Chrissy and tries to set things right with her, but Chrissy is still mad. She accuses Amanda of being a brown-noser and a snitch and of copying her hairstyle. She shoves Amanda twice before Amanda finally shoves her back and walks off, saying she actually thought Chrissy was smart. I do like that Amanda finally at least halfway stood up to Chrissy.
Another scene at Chrissy's home. Her mother is mad about the school calling and Chrissy getting home late. We find out that her mother is one of those types who say things like, "Your sister has the brains and you have the looks," which is sure to give both girls a complex.
Chrissy goes to Amanda and sincerely apologizes. Amanda comes over for another study session. Chrissy's mother is off to another date with "Dick" and Amanda confides that her mother is a slut too. Chrissy gives her a sympathetic look. The final scene shows them bonding as friends. This was a good episode about our self-image being connected to how others see us.
And so we say goodbye to yet another character. I've heard it said that the relationship between Amanda and Chrissy was mirrored in another show - Lizzie and Kate from Lizzie McGuire. I kind of wish Chrissy had been kept on as a secondary friend for Amanda, but only if they were going to cut out Chrissy being a snob and Amanda hanging on to her every word, trying to impress her. That was getting old.
Next episode: Amanda fears she is becoming a pervert.
